Inés Figaredo (Madrid, 1976) is a visual artist whose practice investigates how certain systems of operations constitute forms of knowledge that precede and exceed language.
Her work stems from the observation of that mental humming, akin to play and reverie, from which families of recurrent gestures emerge, and from the ways in which these organise experience, memory, and forms of relating to the world.
Through processes of repetition, aggregation, and transformation, action begins to produce thought and forms start to generate structure, meaning, and recognition before having been fully named. Conceived as a living organism, it inhabits a territory of potentiality and free associative wandering in which matter progressively acquires symbolic agency, making it possible to give form to that which still remains in a state prior to language.
These investigations are articulated around questions related to identity, dwelling, the organisation of thought, and the ways in which bonds, absences, and memory become inscribed in matter, as well as forms of relation, belonging, and estrangement in relation to space.
This universe unfolds through a wide range of media and supports—including sculpture, painting, video art, performative installations, neon, inherited objects or those charged with strong familial associations, and textiles—which together constitute a singular and highly recognisable visual language. This richness of formal and material resources is articulated within a solid and deeply committed discourse in which each medium finds its specific necessity and contributes to the construction of a distinctive universe of great singularity, strong internal coherence, and a remarkable capacity to leave a lasting impression.
The work of Inés Figaredo is held in important private and institutional collections, as well as in internationally renowned foundations and collections.
